3 of the best train journeys in the world

Millions of people around the world hop on a train each day. Whether it’s to head to work, see family members or just a day out, they’re one of the most convenient ways to travel.

But some people are a little luckier. They get to journey on some of the most beautiful train routes in the world. And to rub the salt into that wound we’re going to tell you about them here.

Pretoria to Cape Town (The Blue Train), South Africa

Let’s start on home soil with a journey that encompasses waterfalls, wild ostrich and sunflower farms.  Boasting butler service, lounge cars, observation cars, and carriages with full-sized bathtubs, you’ll be hard pressed to find a more enjoyable train journey.

You’ll pass through some of the most famous areas of the country too, including the “Garden Route”, Kruger Park and Victoria Falls.

Cuzco to Machu Pichu, Peru

The Incan capital Cuzco sees quite a few backpacker trains pull out of its stations each day to wind their way up through the Andes to the ruin of Machu Pichu. You’ll be able to enjoy river views, stunning mountain top scenery and green peaks that you’ll only find here.

There’s also a more luxurious train that takes this route which provides fine dining.

Seattle to Los Angeles, United States

For those of you who want to travel the West Coast of America, this is the way to do it. It offers up some of the country’s finest landscape, from the high Sierra to Big Sur. You’ll be able to see the Pacific Ocean, lush forestry, valleys and mountains. All from the comfort of a reclining seat.

There’s even a sleeping carriage for those of you who’re a little overwhelmed by the views.

Have you enjoyed a stunning train journey somewhere in the world recently? Then let us know! We’d love to hear from you.
